| Overall, Europe. But I think the European ultras in some respects, do not reach the level of the Argentine barras bravas. Also in the rest of America the barras bravas are growing much (specially in Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru).
The most large barras bravas of here (barras of Independiente, Boca Juniors, River Plate, etc.) seem like real armies. Even many small teams have large barras bravas.
They are so organized that they have more power over the club that the president.
Political parties and trade unions "rent" the barras bravas for their acts.
The downside is that it runs so much money that everything became a business. This "business" began in the late 80s. Before that everything was purely out of passion to the teams.
Barras bravas here have a long tradition (started in the 20s and 30s, and the violence related with the football comes from de beginning the sport itself), and in Uruguay too (except that there only the two top teams, Nacional and Peņarol, have big barras bravas). |
